Metal Finishing Services

Metal finishing refers to the deposition of a metallic or non-metallic coating to either a metallic or non-metallic object, or a treatment that creates a thin film to enhance the function, performance, or appearance of a product to give added-value and increased marketability.

Types of Metal Coatings

As a metal finishing company that specializes in providing coating and plating services for industrial metal finishing, there are several types of coating and plating processes we provide.

Typically, coatings are applied where the substrate is immersed in a solution to which an electric current is applied. The type of solution used depends on the type of metal that will be deposited on the substrate, the addition of organic additives to improve metal distribution, and the use of conductivity and pH salts to optimize its character, appearance and stress.

One of the areas in which we have a great deal of expertise as a metal finishing company is electro-less nickel plating which means that the deposit is made without the use of a current. The reducing agent is a chemical, such as hydrazine, formaldehyde, and sodium hypophosphite, in a solution. The chemical acts as the catalyst to ensure the desired metal is coated onto the substrate. The development of electro-less copper solutions has been vital in the rise of additive printed circuit board processing.

Another one of our specialties is nickel boron coating, which is a type of electro-less coating. In this process the coating is deposited with a source of nickel ions, an aqueous solution in which either sodium borohydride or alkylamineborane acts as a reducing agent, a buffer, a control chemical and a complexant.

Metal Coating Applications

The types of coatings our company provides benefit the end user with excellent corrosion and chemical protection. Our nickel boron coating, for example, is a proprietary process that has been used in aerospace applications for landing gear parts, blades, vanes, and turbine components, and in the coating of firearms. Other industries we serve include dental, surgical and municipal and utility operations.

Finishing plays an essential role in all sorts of industry applications, because they reduce wear and tear. Metal finishings offer a number of advantages – which include but aren’t limited to:

  • Corrosion resistance
  • Chemical protection
  • Oxidation resistance
  • Improved electrical conductivity or resistance
  • Improved strength
  • Increased aesthetics
  • Temperature Resistance

Basics of Metal Plating

Metal plating is a type of finishing process that uses unique methods to change the surface of a substrate. Chemical baths, electroplating, and electroless plating are three common techniques employed to plate metals. Like metal finishing, metal plating offers many of the same advantages. Corrosion resistance, abrasion prevention, and increased reliability are a few of the benefits of metal plating. Plating techniques help to extend the life of metal materials, while saving industry professionals money in the process. Our team is familiar with a wide range of plating methods – guaranteed to protect a range of metal components.

How to Choose the Best Method

The sheer number of metal finishing and coating techniques available can make choosing the best solution a challenge. However, keeping a few important points in mind can streamline the process. For one, it’s a good idea to take your schedule into account, and whether or not the method you have in mind is timely. Secondly, closely evaluating the affordability of finishing applications helps to cut back on unnecessary spending. Thirdly, it’s important to consider the type of metal you’re working with. For example, a harder metal will likely demand stronger, more intensive industrial metal finishing.

Products: Corrosion Resistant Coatings: Economical and Effective

Corrosion Resistant Coatings
Anti-corrosive Coatings

In various industry operations, reliable metal is needed to promote safety, productivity, and cost-efficient maintenance. Corrosion resistant coatings are one of many solutions available to industry professionals through Secoa Technology. In addition to protecting metal from corrosion, anti-corrosive coatings serve a number of other helpful functions, such as moisture, UV, abrasion protection, and more. Whether you’re looking for an affordable coating for an architectural project, municipality application, or food processing operation, anti-corrosive coating is an absolute must.

Importance of Anti-Corrosives

Essentially, anti-corrosive coatings are designed to lengthen the life of metal components by safeguarding them from a variety of detrimental influences. Anti-corrosives can be applied to metal substrate through different methods, such as fluidized beds, electro-static, or hot-flocking. Additionally, corrosion resistant coatings are available in more than one form, and can be administered as a wet coating or powder coating. Without adequate protection, it’s easy for caustic materials to break down metals over time and cause irreparable damage. Not only do anti-corrosive coatings protect applications, they also prevent the need for costly repairs.

Range of Protections

Expertly-applied anti-corrosion coatings offered by Secoa Technology provide a wide range of advantages, regardless of the operation. These include:

  • Corrosion resistance
  • Moisture defense
  • Abrasion resistance
  • Oxidation protection
  • Solvent defense
  • UV ray resistance
  • Industrial chemical resistance

In addition, anti-corrosive coatings serve as a much-needed lubricator – which helps reduce friction, galling, and seizing. Wet coatings, such as fluoropolymers, are especially effective when it comes to metal lubrication. Anti-corrosive solutions give professionals the opportunity to buy less expensive metals without ramifications. Even if repairs are eventually needed, the costs are often much lower with reasonably priced metals.

Staple in Numerous Industries

Anti-corrosives are often needed to boost the durability of metal pieces used in professional applications. From architectural structures and water tanks, to commercial ovens and dental tools, to turbines and drive rollers, metal is an integral part of numerous industry operations. Corrosion and chemical resistant coatings offer non-negotiable protection, and protect metals against high temperatures, mold, rust and more. Choosing a reputable metal finishing company for anti-corrosion coating services, such as Secoa Technology, ensures you’ll receive the most satisfying results.

Products: Secoa Technology Now Carries DiamonDyze

Diamondyze
Diamondyze

Secoa Technology is excited to announce that it now offers a new hard anodize process called Diamondyze.  After 50 years in the Industrial Coating and Plating business, Secoa is convinced that this process will revolutionize the plating industry. DiamonDyze offers a broad range of major improvements in the field of hard anodizing for the end user. The DiamonDyze process imbeds ceramic particles with other proprietary nano-particles into the porosity of the aluminum oxide hard coat, providing a much harder surface that is both very dense and porous free.

Since Secoa Technology has begun to use DiamonDyze we have found countless reasons why we feel that this is a superior process to other platings.  Listed below are just a few of the improvements that have been found in so far with the DiamonDyze process and we feel that this list has barely scratched the surface with the potential of what DiamonDyze can offer.

1. DiamonDyze has proven to be harder than the best of standard hard anodize processes. In a recent simple test, an Aluminum part was plated with DiamonDyze and attached to a spinning lathe.  A standard file was then used to try and wear the plating off and after the test was completed, the result was a DiamonDyzed part with an undamaged, polished surface and a file with its teeth worn off.

2. Panels coated with Diamondyze exposed from 6,000 to 10,000 hours salt spray showed no failure.

3. One of the biggest innovations with Diamondyze is that it can be offered in many colors. Recently, Secoa Technology applied DiamonDyze with a brass impregnated color to machined aluminum parts as a replacement for costly, actual brass parts and the result was two indistinguishable parts.  As a result, our customer has given us the go ahead to DiamonDyze tens of thousands of these parts per month, providing them significant cost savings and a technically superior part.

4. Because the surfaces that are produced with DiamonDyze are very dense they are also very smooth.

5. DiamonDyze is cost competitive with standard Hard Anodizing, Vacuum Deposition, Plasma Spray and Vapor Deposition.
